Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Functions
We maintain an aggressive sexually transmitted disease (STD) program designed to:
  • Assure that all cases have been treated correctly
  • Break the chain of infection by locating and notifying contacts of known infections
  • Educate the public on risk factors and prevention methods
  • Identify cases of sexually transmitted disease

In 2011, the nursing staff made 3,047 client contacts including: 2,552 office visits and 495 telephone consultations. Additionally, the staff reviewed and followed up on express clinic test results and administered 1,143 treatments based on those results.

Express Testing
In 2010, the STD Express Testing Clinic was established. Express testing is available for individuals who want routine gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or HIV testing and are not experiencing symptoms.

Testing
If left untreated, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can cause serious complications. The Health Department's in-house clinic provides confidential testing and treatment for STDs and confidential / anonymous HIV testing at no cost to the client. Testing is available at the Harold K. 227 E. Chestnut Expy.
